Nambour’s primary industry has been sugar, with extensive cane fields surrounding the town, and the Moreton Sugar Mill in the town centre. Just over 100kms from Brisbane, Nambour lies at the foot of the Blackall Range in the sub-tropical hinterland of the Sunshine Coast. Confirmation of the approval came this morning after the Sunshine Coast Council had sought the loan for the $347 million project which is set to be operational by Christmas, 2020 with the $181 million intended to assist with construction of the new runway, airport terminal extensions and aircraft aprons. The announcement follows the airport's international designation handed down a few weeks ago and comes as the council narrows its search for a private partner, having undertaken an expression of interest process to identify its preferred partner for the expansion. The $181 million loan was subject to due diligence stacking up and the Queensland Treasury Corporation acting as guarantor, both of which have been achieved, Federal Member for Fairfax Ted O'Brien confirmed. "It probably felt like a long time, in hindsight it hasn't really been, at least since being elected (for the loan to be confirmed)," Mr O'Brien said. "We've (Commonwealth Government) done everything we possibly could." ...
